This module explains why food safety is essential in disability support settings and how it connects with Work Health and Safety (WHS) obligations. Disability support workers often prepare or serve food in homes, day programs, or group living arrangements where standard food business laws may not directly apply. It also highlights the importance of understanding duty of care - protecting both yourself and the vulnerable people you support. By the end, you will understand how food safety responsibilities are shared between employer and worker, and why they are a vital part of safe, person-centered disability support.

Food Safety for Disability Support Workers ensures that meals provided to participants are safe, nutritious, and hygienically prepared. This policy and training guide staff to follow proper handling, storage, and preparation practices, preventing foodborne illnesses while supporting the health, dignity, and wellbeing of people with disability in care environments.

The purpose of this course is to provide NDIS and disability support workers with the knowledge and skills to understand, identify, and manage the use of chemical restraint in practice. Chemical restraint is one of the most regulated restrictive practices and carries significant ethical, legal, and health implications.

By the end of this training, learners will be able to distinguish between chemical restraint and appropriate medical treatment, recognise the risks and impacts of misuse, apply correct protocols, and comply with reporting requirements under the NDIS Practice Standards.

The ultimate goal is to protect the dignity, human rights, and safety of people with disability, while promoting positive behaviour support strategies and working towards the reduction and elimination of restrictive practices.

This program provides staff with the knowledge and skills to recognize symptoms, follow safe procedures, and act appropriately in emergencies. It builds competence, reduces risks, and ensures staff can support participants in line with organizational policies and national standards.

This course introduces learners to the NDIS Worker Screening Check and its role in safeguarding people with disability by ensuring only safe and suitable workers are engaged. It explains the risk assessment process, legal obligations, and the responsibilities of workers and providers under the NDIS Practice Standards. By the end, learners will understand how to maintain compliance, report changes in circumstances, and uphold a safe, trustworthy environment for participants.
