Course Description

This course equips disability support workers with the knowledge and skills to safely perform manual handling tasks while minimising the risk of injury to themselves and the people they support. It covers safe lifting techniques, correct use of equipment, and compliance with workplace health and safety regulations. By the end, learners will be able to apply safe manual handling practices that protect their own wellbeing and maintain client safety and dignity.

Explain the principles of safe manual handling.

Identify common manual handling risks.

Demonstrate correct manual handling techniques.

Safely use assistive equipment (hoists, slide sheets, transfer belts).

Follow workplace health and safety policies.

Recognise and report hazards or incidents.

Promote client dignity and independence.
